13/01/2012 :Rachael Chrisp backs Newtown residents’ parking scheme:

Labour candidate for Park Ward Rachael Chrisp has welcomed the decision of the Traffic Management Advisory Panel to start formal consultation on a residents’ parking scheme for the east of Newtown, which she says will do a lot to reduce parking problems in the area.

Rachael says: "I am really pleased that the Labour Council is moving forward with this proposal. We have regularly heard from residents on the doorstep about the difficulties of parking in Newtown and hope that this scheme will solve a lot of the problems.”

The recommendation comes following a consultation last year which drew 230 responses from local residents, 185 of whom were in favour of a residents’ parking scheme with 113 backing Option 1, which will now be formally advertised.

The scheme provides for a total of 627 parking spaces in Liverpool Road, Freshwater Road, Coventry Road, Norton Road, Filey Road, Radstock Road and Manchester Road.
