Labour’s Lead Councillor for Housing and Neighbourhoods, Rachel Eden, has reacted with dismay to the rushed set of announcements the Tory-led Government has tried to present as a ‘housing strategy’.
In a first reaction, she says the reality is that the Government has put back just 10% of the £4Billion it cut out of the budget last year for affordable housing, and what they have left will deliver an average of just five affordable homes per constituency!
Rachel Eden says: “The Government just has no vision for housing. Their ‘strategy’ fails to address the heart of the issue, which is that George Osborne has stalled the engines of growth, and what they have put back in will clearly not kick-start the economy. I am dismayed by the lack of ambition, but there are also many worrying details which I believe will cause us real problems here in Reading.”
