21/04/10 :"The LibDem stance on four key issues is: we haven't included them in our spending plans":

The Reading Liberal Democrat website gives "The LibDem stance on 14 key issues", making a series of pledges under each. But, Labour Reading East candidate Anneliese Dodds points out, the website makes some major pledges which are not costed at all in the LibDem manifesto. For example, Anneliese points out, the website promises;
  • "£8bn more on health" - but this is not included in the LibDems' Spending commitments (p101 of their Manifesto)
  • "10,000 extra police" - but the Manifesto only budgets for 3,000
  • "Boost basic state pension by £100+ a month" - but this is not included in the LibDems' Spending commitments
  • "free long-term personal care" - but this is not included in the LibDems' Spending commitments
"There is no indication of where the money's coming from for these Lib Dem spending promises" she adds, "and I would urge people not to take my word for this but research it for themselves. This is 'read the small print' time for the LibDems. Spraying around expensive promises is all well and good, but it is unfair to voters to keep them in the dark on where the money would come from to pay for what's promised!."
