Tory leader David Cameron has won praise from the National Landlords Association for speaking out in Parliament against the Town & Country Planning Order which, the landlords Association points out, would "effectively allow local authorities to limit the amount of shared housing". As Anneliese Dodds, Labour candidate for Reading East, explains, Cameron's move would prevent Councils like Reading from limiting the over-proliferation of HMOs (Houses in Multiple Occupation) which has blighted streets in Redlands, Park and Katesgrove wards in particular.
"The National Landlords Association," she says, "says it is 'glad to see the Leader of the Opposition taking a stand and making housing a central issue in the coming General Election.' Well, so am I. I am glad that David Cameron has made it clear that anyone who is worried about the intensification of HMOs in places like East Reading should avoid a Conservative Government at any cost!
"In Reading East only a vote for Labour will preserve the new measures the Labour Government has introduced to allow Councils to control HMOs, which are now in force. Never say elections don't offer you a real choice."
