06/12/09 :Dee Park Regeneration gets Planning Permission!:

The Regeneration of Dee Park Estate, which local Labour Councillors have worked on for eight years alongside local people under the auspices of CRAG (Community Regeneration Action Group), has taken a giant step forward.

On December 2, Planning Permission was given to the Dee Park Partnership (DPP) for both the outline masterplan for the whole estate and the detailed plans for Phase 1, which includes the Tay Road area.

Norcot Councillors Peter Jones, Graeme Hoskin and Jo Lovelock were at the Planning Committee with members of CRAG.

They say: "After all the years of consultation and looking at changing plans, the actual building work now looks set to start on site in March 2010. The plans not only replace all the concrete flats with family housing, new sheltered housing for older residents and flats and houses for sale, but also bring major community benefits: a new youth club, a community centre, a new two-entry Ranikhet Primary School, new shops, new improved open space and many environmental improvements."

Jo Lovelock, Leader of Reading Borough Council and chair of the Council's Dee Park Board, says: "This has been a great example of co-operation between the Council and a local community, and will deliver a greatly enhanced quality of life for local people. The developers have also accepted a local labour agreement so the jobs will be filled by local people."
