15/11/09 : Naz Sarkar launches campaign to end West Berkshire's "inhumane and immoral" rationing of community care :
Labour candidate for Reading West today stepped up the fight against what he called the "inhumane and immoral" rationing of community care by Tory West Berkshire Council, which covers a big slice of his constituency.
Quoting West Berkshire's Lead Councillor Joe Mooney as saying that "someone looking for a place in a care home would now need to have greater need than before", he points out that "before" the Tories had only supported people in 'critical' need.
Denefield teacher Naz Sarkar has volunteered for a leading autistic charity for seven years and will be doing work with the charity over the Christmas holiday period.
He added "Caring and working with the less well off is one of the things that motivated me to get into politics, it's one of the things that drives me. We must win this campaign and make the Tories on West Berkshire Council recognise their responsibilities to the elderly and vulnerable."
Mr Sarkar, pictured here with Parish Councillor Sean Hartney launching the campaign outside the recently closed Trafalgar care home in Theale, has started an on-line petition which can be signed at www.gopetition.co.uk/online/32127.html
