15/01/08: New Transport Plans Submitted
Labour is the first political party in town to submit detailed plans to the Transport Commissioner, Sir Brian Briscoe, and his colleagues, plans which Labour Leader Cllr. David Sutton says have the reduction of traffic congestion at their heart.

"Reducing congestion improves the environment for all, makes traffic flow more easily, is essential for our continued prosperity, and reduces global warming, and atmospheric pollution. After cancelling plans for the one-way IDR, Labour has taken a long, hard and fresh look at the transport needs of the town'' Cllr. Sutton adds. "We are very ambitious for Reading and want it to be a great place to grow up in, to live and work in, and in which to grow old. Reducing congestion is key to all of that. We don’t pretend to have all the answers, but are pleased to be the first party to put a comprehensive set of proposals before the people of Reading for their consideration as well as to the Traffic Commission itself.''
