21/11/07 : The Council and its partners
The Reading 2020 Partnership Forum at the town hall on 20 November brought Reading Council together its partners from the public, business and voluntary and community sectors.
The Forum included a showcase of more than 50 voluntary and community sector organizations, many of them supported directly by Reading's Labour Council, highlighting the huge contribution they make to improving the quality of life for people in Reading, and to making the town a fairer place.
The keynote speakers were:
Cllr David Sutton, Labour leader of Reading Borough Council and chair of the Reading 2020 Partnership
Mike Martin, Director of Reading Voluntary Action (a Reading 2020 Board member)
Tim Clewer, of the Mustard Tree Foundation, representing Reading Faith Forum (a Reading 2020 Board member)
In working to address inequality and create sustainable communities in Reading, the 2020 Partnership has three underpinning principles of:
Community cohesion and equalities
Lifelong learning and creativity
Sustainability and sustainable development
Cllr David Sutton says: "Reading's Labour Council has put a great deal of effort into building partnership working and we now have an inclusive and widely representative Local Strategic Partnership with a wide range of expertise and knowledge and is working with us to make Reading a safer, cleaner and fairer place. It was also great to see the range of voluntary and community groups who bring a special vibrancy to the town."
