18/9/07 : Council acts to save Resource
Resource, a key service in Reading for people with mental health problems, has been saved from closure by a new deal brokered by Reading's Labour Council, working with Berkshire West Primary Care Trust.

They have found a national charity, 'Together: Working for Wellbeing' to run the centre, which is located on the corner of Waylen Street and Oxford Road. Resource, which has run a drop-in cafe and return to work assistance service for people with mental health issues for a number of years and has over 1,000 members, was in financial trouble as a result of funding from the European Social Fund coming to an end.

Mike Orton, Labour's Lead Councillor for Community Care, says: "Reading Borough Council has worked tirelessly to make sure the service remains available to those who depend on it. I would like to thank members and staff for all their hard work and support during this difficult time. The new organisation, Together, provides a good quality of service nationally and we look forward to working together with them in the future."

Adrian Dunsterville, Together's Area Manager, says: "Together is a national charity that works for well-being and we are delighted to join Reading Borough Council to manage Resource. We believe Resource is a beacon for other day services and is committed to actively supporting the high levels of service user involvement and empowerment. Together is looking forward to working with its members and staff to develop the service."
