4/9/07 : New play area for King's Meadow
One of Reading's most unique parklands will get more trees, a new wildflower meadow and a new children's play area following a public consultation, responses to which included detailed letters from conservation groups. Issues including safer crossing of Napier Road and keeping travellers out of the Meadow are also being addressed.
The Council's parks team also spoke to the East Reading after-school club about the kind of equipment they would like to see in the children's play area - a buddy swing, a whizzer (which challenges balance), multi-play equipment and a witches hat frame were the most popular suggestions!
Graeme Hoskin, Labour's Lead Councillor for Culture and Sport, said: "It is great to get so much helpful feedback and it's clear that the people of Reading value King's Meadow as much as we do. There are some very useful points raised by respondents which we'll be taking fully on board."
