28/8/07 : 13% Increase In Two Years At GCSE
Secondary pupils across Reading are celebrating their best GCSE results ever!

Schools report that the percentage of pupils getting five or more GCSEs grades A*-C is up from 55% in 2006 to 58% in 2007. This builds on the huge improvements last year, when the figure was up from 45% in 2005. Over 30% of all grades were at A or A*, half as many again as is the case nationally.

Jon Hartley, Labour's Lead Councillor for Education says: "Reading's secondary schools and students deserve all our congratulations on this excellent set of results. They demonstrate the huge amount of work which has gone into driving up standards in our schools. Reading Council will continue supporting its schools to keep up the momentum and build on these excellent results."
