17/8/07 : Half of all A level passes in Reading are grade A!
Sixth-formers in Reading are celebrating after achieving almost double the national average of A grades in their A level exams.
The Borough's schools are reporting that 49% of their A level passes were A grades, which is almost double the national average of 25.3%, and the overall A level pass rate was 98%, which is also higher than the national average of 96.9%.
Jon Hartley, Labour's Lead Councillor for Education and Lifelong Learning, says: "The very high proportion of A grades and the high overall pass rate show the continuing drive for excellence across the board in Reading's schools. I would like to congratulate the students and thank the school staff and governors for all the expertise, hard work and commitment that went into getting these results."
