3/7/07 : Caversham Court Gardens To Be Restored
Reading's popular Caversham Court gardens are to be restored, thanks to a cash boost from the Heritage Lottery Fund, which has committed £1,149,000 towards the revamp.

The funding means that the council can get on with its plans to restore the historic and picturesque spot beside the River Thames and upgrade the standard of horticulture. Most of the money will be used to restore the 17th Century and 19th Century features of the garden, including the gazebo and its causeway, the crinkle-crackle retaining wall and the ancient yew family and hedge. A new tea garden, run for the benefit of local charities, is also in the plans. The work is expected to be completed by spring 2009.

Graeme Hoskin, Labour's Lead Councillor for Culture and Sport, said: "This is very exciting news and I can't wait for the work to get started. Caversham Court gardens are one of Reading's heritage treasures and with this money, we can now go ahead with their restoration."
