26/6/07 : New chair for Reading Labour Party
Former Katesgrove Councillor Trish Thomas was elected as Chair of Reading & District Labour Party at its Annual General Meeting on Thursday 21 June.
She takes over from Stuart Singleton-White, who is standing down after five years as Chair. Reading West MP Martin Salter presented Stuart with a bottle of House of Commons whisky signed by Prime Minister-designate Gordon Brown as a "thank you" for his hard work in the post.
Ann Morgan was re-elected as Secretary, and Southcote Councillor Deborah Edwards as Treasurer. Southcote colleague Pete Ruhemann was re-elected as Vice-Chair West, and will also act as Press Officer, and Park Ward activist Andrew Dunn was re-elected Vice-Chair East.
Trish Thomas says: "Reading Labour Party has been making the political running in this town for the last twenty years and has contributed greatly to Reading's prosperity, its quality public services and its good community relations. I am pleased and proud to have been elected to help take the Party forward, and although I am not the first woman chair of the Party I'm pleased that for the first time a majority of the Party's elected officers are women. Reading Labour Party nominated Gordon Brown as Leader of the Labour Party and we are really looking forward to working with his Labour Government for the benefit of Reading people."
